How to Choose the Right Indicator Paper?
Indicator papers are a discreet but very useful tool in schools, laboratories, and industrial environments. At first glance, they may look similar, but each type serves a different purpose. So how do you navigate the range and choose the right one for your application?
What do you want to measure?
First, decide whether you need to measure pH approximately or detect a specific substance. For determining acidity or alkalinity, pH papers are suitable – either universal (e.g. pH 1–11) or with a narrower range for more precise reading (e.g. pH 5–7.2). For a quick distinction between acidic and alkaline reactions, litmus papers are sufficient. However, if you are interested in substances such as chlorine, nitrates, or ammonia, you should choose special reagent papers.

Using indicator papers is very simple. Follow the instructions for the specific type of paper and compare the resulting color change with the reference scale on the packaging. You get the result within seconds – no instruments or complex equipment needed.
